Patriot Ladies Fall on the Road against Running Eagles

Marietta, GA – UC Women's Basketball went back on the road on Thursday as they traveled to the Eagles' Nest to take on the Running Eagles of Life University. After a very evenly matched first half of play, it was a surge of offense from the Eagles that sent them over the top in a 72-51 win over the Patriots. The loss pushes UC's overall record to 13-8 and 2-6 in Mid-South Conference play.

First quarter action saw seven lead changes as the teams would trade baskets for the first ten minutes of play. Callia Cropp would score all six of her points in the game in the first while Cheyenne Madden's four points and Kayla Bruner's bucket would take the game to the second tied at 12. There, UC would find its largest lead of the game at three with the score 22-19 with just under six minutes left in the half. UC would hold the lead 26-23 with 3:42 to play, but Life would score seven more points in the quarter, all on free throws, to take a 30-28 lead at the half.

UC would open the half scoring five straight points in the first two minutes to take a 33-30 lead on the Eagles. Life would then find an offensive groove, going on a 16-2 run over the next six minutes of action to take the advantage 46-35. Life would widen the gap late to take a 50-38 lead into the final quarter of play. The Eagles would begin the fourth on a 10-2 run in the first 3:15 of the quarter to take a 60-40 lead. Life would go 9-12 from the charity stripe in the quarter on their way to the 73-51 win over the Patriots.

Cheyenne Madden would lead the Patriots in scoring off the bench with 17 points and six rebounds. Shayla Simpson added 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the game. Callia Cropp and Kayla Bruner both chipped in six points each. The Patriots would shoot just over 41% in the game, but just 3-16 from beyond the arc.

The Eagles outrebounded UC 41-28 (17 offensive) in the contest while shooting 80% from the line going 20-25 on the game.

The Patriots will now finish their non-conference schedule up on Saturday, February 3rd as they continue their road trip in Georgia as they take on Carver College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
