Williamsburg, KY – The UC Women's Basketball team would look sharp early on, continuously building their lead through the first three quarter of play on Saturday as they hosted the Phoenix of Cumberland University. The fourth quarter though would end up being the difference maker as the Phoenix would rally to defeat UC 51-46. The loss moves the Patriots to 15-11 on the season and 3-9 in Mid-South Conference play.
The Patriot ladies would open the game on a 9-0 run through the first four minutes, but would see the Phoenix make a comeback. CU would outscore Cumberlands 10-3 over the remainder of the quarter as the Patriots held a 12-10 lead after one. The second quarter was much stronger for UC. After a tie at 14-14, the Patriots would go on a 16-2 run to hold a 14 point edge at the half 30-16.
In the third, it was more of a back and forth battle and the Patriots and Phoenix would, but UC would extend their lead to 19 at 46-27 entering the final ten minutes of play. There, CU would find their offense as well as their defense as they would hold the Patriots scoreless in the quarter while going on a 24-0 run to defeat the Patriots 51-46.
Jasmine Rhodes would record her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Kayla Bruner added 15 points in the loss. UC shot 38.3% from the field in the game while outrebounding the Phoenix 36-30.
UC will be back in action for Senior Night on Thursday, February 22
nd as they host NAIA top-ranked Shawnee State University for a Mid-South Conference matchup. Game time is slated for 6 pm.
