Patriots Pound Tigers in MSC Midweek Matchup

Williamsburg, KY – UC Women's Basketball returned home off a three-game road trip on Thursday as they hosted the Tigers of Georgetown College. A double-double would be tallied while two Patriots were just shy of double-doubles as Cumberlands would control the game the entire contest, pulling away with a 68-47 win over the Tigers. The win moves UC to 15-8 on the season and 3-6 now in Mid-South Conference play.
 
In the first quarter, UC would go up 7-4 in the first four minutes of play, but Georgetown would go on an 8-0 run to take a five point lead at 12-7 just past the media timeout. UC then went on their own run, this one a 9-4 rally to tie the game after the first period of play 16-16. The Pats would dominate the second quarter. After GC took a 19-16 lead, the Patriots put together a 12-2 run to jump ahead 28-19 with 4:22 to play in the half. Cumberlands would continue to extend their lead as they went into the locker room leading 37-25.
 
Georgetown would cut the lead to eight with just over four minutes to play in the third quarter, but UC's offense would not be stopped in the game. Another 13-4 run by Cumberlands would push them well ahead 55-38 entering the final quarter of action. In the fourth, UC would pad their lead as two Pats notched double-doubles while one Patriot missed one by a single point and another by two rebounds as Cumberlands would coast to the 21 point victory.
 
Leading the scoring for UC was Cheyenne Madden with 21 points and eight rebounds. Ashley Jackson added 12 points on 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc with three rebounds. Jasmine Rhodes notched her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Shayla Simpson just missed a double-double herself with nine points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Patriots shot 48.9% from the field in the game along with 52.9% from three point range. UC also was impressive going 13-16 from the charity stripe and dominating the rebounds 41-19.
 
Cumberlands hits the road again on Saturday, February 10th as they travel to take on the NAIA third-ranked Tigers of Campbellsville University. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
