Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub each tallied a point but it wasn't enough as UC men's tennis team fell to NCAA Division II Young Harris 7-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Bob & Gayle Tennis Complex. With the win Mountain Lions improve to 8-4, while the Patriots move to 1-7 overall.
Young Harris struck first with an 8-3 win at #3 doubles.
Aatu Merenheimo and
Luis Montull at #1 doubles and Yusuke Matsouka and Barbier at #2 doubles both battled hard but ultimately fell 8-3, giving the Mountain Lions a 3-0 edge.
Young Harris tallied wins at #4 and #3 singles to give them a 5-0 lead and clinch the match. At #6 singles, Banoub defeated Ignacio Ascarrunz 6-3, 6-3 to get the Patriots on the board. Barbier followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Alex Pavel at #2 singles cutting the deficit to 5-2. Young Harris recorded wins at the #1 and #5 positions for the 7-2 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Tuesday, March 20, when they host MSC foe Shawnee State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
