Box Score Williamsburg, KY – After postponing the match two days because of weather, the UC men's tennis team blanked Midway 9-0 Friday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win UC improves to 1-3, while the Eagles move to 2-3.
Cumberlands jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with 8-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles.
Yusuke Matsuoka and
Martin Barbier won at #2 doubles, while
Rodrigo Ratte and
Eric Banoub won at #3 doubles.
Aatu Merenheimo and
Luis Montull posted an 8-2 win at #1 doubles to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, Matsuoka knocked off Stephen Pueterbaugh 6-0, 6-0 to extend UC's lead to 4-0. Montull followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 singles to clinch the match for Cumberlands. At #2 singles, Barbier defeated
Hugo Retortillo 6-1, 6-2, while Merenheimo earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at #1 singles. Ratte and
Patrick Oliveira closed out the matches with wins at #5 and #6 singles for the 9-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, March 3, when they host Point. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
