Box Score Williamsburg, KY – UC men's tennis team found their stride as they held Shawnee State to one game en route to a 9-0 win in MSC action Tuesday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win the Patriots improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Bears move to 4-12 overall and 0-2 in the MSC.
Cumberlands jumped out to 3-0 lead as all three doubles won 8-0. Aatu Mereheimo and Luis Montoll scored the first point at #1 doubles, while
Martin Barbier and
Yusuke Matsuoka win at #2 doubles extended the lead to 2-0. At #3 doubles
Eric Banoub and Rodrigo Ratta improve to 2-0 in conference play with a win over Shane Hutchens and Casper Notle.
The Patriots carried the momentum into singles play as Mereheimo and Matsuoka each notched their first conference win of the season, 6-0, 6-0, at #1 and #3 position, respectfully. Barbier followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nate Hinze at #2 singles to move to 6-3 on the season. Montull, Ratta, and Banoub closed out the match with straight sets wins at #4, #5, and #6 singles for the 9-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, March 24, when they host MSC foe Pikeville. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
