Box Score Williamsburg, KY – In a battle of the top two-ranked NAIA women's lacrosse programs, the top-ranked SCAD overpowered second-ranked University of the Cumberlands 27-12 Friday afternoon at James H. Taylor, II Stadium. With the win the Bees improve to 7-0 overall, while the Bees move to 9-1.
SCAD struck first with a pair of goals within the first two minutes of the game to take a 2-0 advantage. Cumberlands battled back as
Jaclyn Berry won the draw control and on the ensuing possession
Samantha Tullar scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. Two minutes later, Katherine Brewer converted a free position opportunity to even the score at 2-2. SCAD retook the lead, before Berry netted back-to-back goals to give UC a 4-3 lead with 22:16 remaining. The Bees scored six unanswered goals, over a four minute span, to give SCAD a 9-4 advantage midway through the first half. After the two teams traded goals, Brewer found Tullar cutting towards the cage for her a goal to make it 10-6. That goal was Tullar's 200
th career point, making her the first Patriot in program history to hit that milestone. Cumberlands took advantage of a Bees turnover as
Tristyn Hudson found Berry, who put a well-placed shot into the cage to make it 10-7. SCAD scored three straight goals to end the half and take a 13-7 lead.
Cumberlands looked to cut into lead as Brewer scooped a ground ball behind the cage and found Berry for her fourth goal of the game, 20 seconds in. SCAD responded netted six of the next seven goals to extend their lead to 19-9 with 22:31 remaining.
Angelica Makoski and Tullar each added a goal to cut the deficit 19-11. Harper Barth netted a goal for the Bees, before Tullar scored a free position goal to give SCAD a 20-12 edge. The Bees scored the final seven goals of the game for the 27-20 final.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Tullar, who recorded five goals, an assist, and six draw controls. Berry added five goals, while Brewer chipped in three points. Heim scooped a team-high nine draw controls and two caused turnovers. Crump and Cabrera combined for 15 saves in the game.
The Patriots will return to the field Saturday, March 24, when they host St. Andrews in an AAC match-up. The game is slated for 12 p.m. with live video available
