Box Score Williamsburg, KY – Down 4-2, the UC men's tennis team scored back-to-back points but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell to sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson 5-4 in the MSC conference opener Friday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win Blue Raiders improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MSC, while the Patriots move to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Lindsey Wilson struck first with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
Rodrigo Ratte and
Eric Banoub teamed up at #3 doubles for an 8-1 win to even the score at 1-1. At #2 doubles Yusuke Matsouka and
Martin Barbier faced Ivan Solans Diaz and Javier Raya. The two teams traded points but Diaz and Raya would prevail for the 8-6 win to give the Blue Raiders a 2-1.
Banoub got singles play started with a 6-0, 6-0 over Mac Montgomery to tie the score 2-2. Lindsey Wilson earned points at #1 and #2 singles, before
Luis Montull took the first set over Steven Espinoza 7-5. Espinoza won the second set 6-2, however Montull rallied to win the third set 6-2 and cut the deficit to 4-3.
At #3 singles, Barbier posted a straight set victory (6-2, 7-6) to knot the match up at 4-4. In the decisive match Ratte took on Raya at #5 singles. Ratte won the first set 6-4, before Raya took the next two sets 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for Lindsey Wilson.
The Patriots will return to the court Sunday, March 1, when they travel to Georgia to face Reinhardt. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
