Box Score Georgetown, KY – In a game that saw three lightening delay before being called with 11:56 remaining, the second-ranked University of the Cumberlands knocked off eight-ranked Georgetown 16-9 Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium. With the win the Patriots improve to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play, while the Tigers moves to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Georgetown struck first to take a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the contest.
Samantha Tullar netted an unassisted goal to tie the game, before
Emily Heim connected with
Jaclyn Berry for a goal to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead. Tullar converted a free-position attempt to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead with 25:43 remaining in the first half. The Tigers scored three of the next four goals to even the score at 4-4 midway through the half. The two teams traded goals before Heim found
Elizabeth Fladung cutting towards the cage for a goal to give Cumberlands a 6-5 lead. Berry dished out assist to Tullar,
Tristyn Hudson, and Heim to extend the lead to 9-5 with 3:04 remaining. After a lightening delay, Georgetown's Doreen Brabble scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 9-6 at the break.
Cumberlands came out strong in the second half as
Emily Crump made a pair of saves, while Tullar netted back-to-back goals to give the Patriots an 11-6 lead three minutes into the second half. On the next UC possession Fladung found
Angelica Makoski in front of the cage for a goal to give UC a 12-6 advantage, four minutes in. Georgetown added a goal less than a minute later, before another lightening delay took place. The Patriots came out of the delay strong as Berry and
Amanda Phillips netted two straight goals to extend the lead to 14-7 with 22:49 remaining. The two teams traded goals before play was called due to lightening with 11:56 remaining.
Leading the way for the Patriots Berry, who netted four goals and four assists in the win. Tullar added seven goals, while Heim finished with a goal and three assists. Crump finished with 15 saves in goal, while
Amanda Phillips scooped a team-high six ground balls.
The Patriots will return to the field Thursday, April 5, when they host Lee University in their final non-conference game of the season. The game is slated for 6 p.m. with live video
