Second-Ranked Women’s Lacrosse Locks in Top Seed after 22-1 Win

Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team set a program record with 16 different Patriots finding the net in a 22-1 win over Brenau Saturday afternoon at James H. Taylor, II Stadium.  With the win the Patriots clinches at least a share of the AAC regular season title and the top seed in the conference tournament.

Cumberlands (16-1; 8-0) jumped out to a quick lead as Samantha Tullar won the opening draw control and found Katherine Brewer for a goal nine seconds into the game.  Ten seconds later, Jaclyn Berry found Angelica Makowski for a goal to give UC a 2-0 lead.  Amanda Phillips and Tristyn Hudson connected for a goal making it 3-0 just under a minute into the game.  Emily Heim dished out three assists and netted a goal of her own to give Cumberlands a 7-0 with 27:56 remaining.  After another Patriot goal, Phillips found Rachael Giles cutting towards the cage for a goal to make it 9-0 with 23:48 left.  Berry netted a goal and dished out three straight assists, including find Madison Holliday for her first collegiate goal, to extend the lead to 14-0.  Kelsey Fearing and Tullar each converted a free position goal to make it 16-0 at the break.

The Patriots continued to get everyone involved in the second half as Berry found Becan Henninghan for a goal less than a minute in.  Just over a minute later Emily Crump dodged from behind the cage, made a spin move, and found the back of the cage for her first goal of the season giving UC an 18-0 advantage.  Lillian Gutierrez and Elizabeth Fladung each added a goal as UC took a 20-0 lead with 22:13 remaining.  The two teams traded goals before Tullar found Phillips for a goal for the 22-1 final.

Leading to the way for the Patriots was Berry, who tied the program record with six assists a game.  Tullar added five points and nine draw controls, while Heim and Phillips finished with four points apiece.  Gutierrez recorded a team-high three caused turnovers on the day.

The Patriots will return to the field Thursday, April 12, when they travel to Wilmore, KY for their regular season finale against Asbury. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. with live stats are available here.
