Bluefield, VA – The University of the Cumberlands Women's Soccer remains undefeated (3-0) after beating the Bluefield Rams 5-0.
Madison Mirandilla led the way by scoring twice in the first half, which marked her first collegiate goal.
Patriots were in control from the beginning whistle, outshooting Bluefield 18-0 in the opening half. In the tenth minute,
Jenna Rockwell scored off a Mirandilla cross and placed the ball into the lower left corner for a 1-0 score. Two minutes later, Mirandilla broke past the Ram's defense and placed the shot in the lower left corner for the 2-0 led. Patriots continued to the control the ball for the next 19 minutes, until Mirandilla struck again the same way as the previous goal to push the Pats led to 3 to 0.
Four minutes later another Patriot,
Hannah Truckenmiller scored, after the ball was misplayed by the keeper, she dribbled the ball all the way to the net for a 4-0 led. In the closing minutes of the first half
Faye Pineda netted her first goal as a Patriot to extend UC's lead to 5-0 at the break.
Cumberlands strong play continued into the second half taking 15 shots, however were unable to convert for the 5-0 final. UC's back line of MaKalynn Green,
Irene Medina and
Hannah Tharp limited the Rams to one shot in the contest.
Christie Funk,
Kendal Bouchard and
Jacquelyn Seymour combined for the shutout.
This is the first time since 2007 the Patriots have started their season 3-0. That year the Pats finished 16-5.
Patriots will be back on the field Saturday, September 1, in Cincinnati, Ohio when they face Cincinnati Christian with kick-off set for 5:00 p.m.
