Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Mark Vasey

Patriots Trounce Eagles 9-0

Williamsburg, KY – The University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team trounced Midway University 9-0 on Sunday night at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.  
 
Cumberlands (3-1-1) jumped in front quickly, scoring three goals in just over 10 minutes of play. Joel Drewery got the scoring started with his first goal of the season in the sixth minute. Sergio Infantes added his first goal of the match and the season in the ninth minute, followed by Alejandro Gonzalez's first goal of the match in the 11' minute. After a lightning delay, UC continued its dominance — adding two more goals to go up 5-0 at halftime. Infantes and Gonzalez each contributed their second goal of the match in the 25' and 29' minutes, respectively. Cumberlands outshot Midway 18-2 in the first half, including 7-2 in shots on goal.
 
The Patriots' remained in control in the second half as they added four more goals to coast to the 9-0 victory. Marvin van der Made notched his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 52' minute and Nicklas Nancke continued his strong offensive play with a goal in the 64' minute. The final two goals of the match were the first collegiate goals for Matthew Laxton and Nathan Seery. Laxton found the back of the net in the 66' minute and Seery capped off the scoring in the 80' minute.
 
 
 
Infantes tallied two goals and three assists to lead all players with seven points. Infantes also led all players in assists, while tying with Gonzalez for a match-high two goals. Drewery and Nancke each garnered two assists and four points in the match.
 
UC outshot Midway 36-2 in the match, including 20-2 in shots on goal. The Patriots' backline, which included Nemanja Jovanovic, Renato Skoko and Brandon Scherr, held the Eagles without a shot in the second half. The shutout is the first of the season for the Patriots.
 
Clement May (2-1-1) made two saves in net for his first shutout as a Patriot. Jared Howard (0-1-0) played the first 31:14 in goal for the Eagles, before being relieved by Andres Ordonez for the final 58:46 of the match. Howard gave up five goals and made one save, while Ordonez made 10 saves and surrendered four goals. 

The nine goals are the most goals scored by the Pats since they scored 16 goals in a match against Hiwassee College on September 25, 2015.
