Williamsburg, KY – The UC volleyball had their six game winning streak snapped as they fell to fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson 3-0 (14-25, 14-25, 12-25) Wednesday night at the UC Volleyball Gym. With the win the Blue Raiders improve to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the MSC, while the Patriots fall to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Cumberlands got off to a fast start in the first set as an
Ashley Sobocinski kill gave UC a 3-1 lead. Back-to-back
Lily Chapman kills combined with a
Mackenzie Koch service ace extend the Patriots lead to 6-2. Lindsey Wilson scored five of the next six points to tie the score 7-7. After trading points, the Blue Raiders went on a 7-1 run to take a 16-10 lead and eventually took the set 25-14.
The second set started out similar to the first as Sobocinski notched a kill, before
Lynsey Short and
Megan Jackson combined for a block to make the score 2-2. From that point the Blue Raiders took the lead and didn't surrender it as they took the set 25-14 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Jackson and Chapman recorded back-to-back kills to help UC jump out to a 3-0 lead in the third set. However, Lindsey Wilson responded with four straight points en route to a 7-1 run to make it 7-4. The Blue Raiders used runs of three, five, and six points to take the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
Chapman led the way for UC with nine kills, while Short dished out 20 assists and made seven digs.
Tara Routliffe finished with a team-high 14 digs.
The Patriots will return to action Tuesday, September 18, when they face 18
th-ranked Georgetown at 6 p.m. in the UC Volleyball Gym. Live video will be available
