Williamsburg, KY – The UC Women's Soccer Team fell to the Bethel Wildcats 3-0 Friday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex for their first loss of the season. With the win the Wildcats improve to 5-3 while the Patriots fall to 7-1.
Cumberlands looked to strike fast but
Riley Barrett shot sailed over the net 30 seconds into the first half. Play continued as Danijela Kolaric looked to score for Bethel in the fourth minute of the game, however her shot went wide. The Patriots and the Wildcats both took two shots,until the 19' minute when Janine Dennis scored off a Brittany Bray pass to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Patriots looked to score the equalizer with several opportunities but, were unsuccessful. In the 33' minute Dennis would score a goal in the upper right corner of the goal, pushing the lead to 2-0. Patriots continued to battle the rest of the half. The Wildcats carried their 2-0 lead into the break.
Coming out in the second half, the Pats looked to get on the board firing two shots in the first two minutes, however could not find the back of the net. The UC ladies never gave up for the next 20 minutes they outshot Bethel 10-3. Until Dennis struck again, dribbling pass the defense for her third goal, giving her a hat-trick in the match for the 3-0 lead.
In the match the Patriots outshot the Wildcats 22-13, with 6 shots on goal to their 5.
Christie Funk tallied two saves in the contest. However the Patriots achilles heel was fouling recording 13 in the match.
The Pats return to action Tuesday, September 18 for a night match against Union College. The match is slated for 8 p.m and live stats are available
