Bourbonnais, IL – Sara Randez netted her first career hat-trick to lead the UC women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Olivet Nazarene Saturday night. With the win the Patriots remain unbeaten moving to 7-0 on the season, with five shutouts, while the Tigers drop to 0-4-1.
In the first half the Patriots took control of possession from the kickoff. In the 15' minute
Riley Barrett dished out her first career assists as she found Randez who fired a shot from 20 yards out, giving UC the 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Randez capitalized again off a
Hannah Truckenmiller pass, pushing the lead to 2-0. For the next nine minutes Patriots fired off two more shots however were unable to convert until the 31' minute when
Laura Navajas stole a ball from the Tigers defense and shot passed the goalie for 3-0 lead. Two minutes later, Cumberlands took advantage of an Olivet foul as Randez converted a free kick from 23 yards out to extend the lead to 4-0 lead. Patriots continued to fire off shots until the whistle for halftime.
Coming into the second half
Jody LeMaster looked to score, however her shot was blocked. Patriots looked to protect their lead and the shutout. During the closing minutes of the match, Sabrina Glasgow looked to head a shot from an
Alanna Skinner corner kick, however the shot was saved the Lions goalie Amanda Roche.
Christie Funk tallied two saves in the contest to improve to 7-0 record in the net. UC outshot the Lions 17-4. Randez recorded her third career multi-goal game and her second of the season.
After a five game away streak the Patriots return home to the UC Lacrosse/Complex on Friday, September 14 against Bethel University, with kickoff starting at 4:00 p.m. Live stats will be available
