Balance Scoring; Stifling Defensive Leads Patriots to Road Win Over Blue Raiders

Columbia, KY – The (RV) UC men's basketball team had five different players record double-figures as the Patriots went on the road to defeat Lindsey Wilson 77-66 Thursday night at the Biggers Athletic Complex. With the win Patriots extend their win streak to three straight and improve to 16-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Blue Raiders fall to 11-10 and 2-4 against the MSC.

The two teams traded baskets to start the game before Jordan Griggs and Jahi Hinson hit back-to-back field goals to put Cumberlands in front 7-2 three minutes into the first half.  UC added a 10-3 run, spanning over four minutes and capped off by a Hinson old-fashion three-point play, to take a 17-9 advantage with 8:57 remaining. Five of the Patriots next seven points came from the charity stripe where UC converted 11-13 first-half free throws. Lindsey Wilson battled back cutting the lead to 24-22 with 2:19 remaining however Danny Butt hit a jumper to extend the lead back to four.  The Blue Raiders eventually evened the score at 26-26, but the Patriots went on a 7-2 run, include Nnamdi Van Dulm connecting with Travon Labranche from long range to give Cumberlands a 33-28 lead at the break.

Caleb Taylor grabbed offensive rebounds on two straight possessions which results in scores as the Patriots extended their lead to seven points, two minutes into the second half. Taylor added a field goal to spark a 7-0 for UC's extending the lead to 44-31 with 16:02 left.  The Blue Raiders cut the lead to ten, before Cumberlands netted 11 unanswered points, including a pair of three-pointers from Labranche, to push the lead to 57-36, the largest lead of the game, with 12:10 remaining.

Lindsey Wilson continued to fight, going on a 14-3 run, over the course of five minutes to cut the score to 60-50.  Hinson drained another field goal as Labranche converted on a free-throw to push the lead to 13 with 5:54 remaining.  The Blue Raiders scored nine unanswered points to cut UC's lead to four, before Malik Colvin-Seldon and Taylor combined for six straight points to give the Patriots a 69-59 edge with 1:10 remaining. Cumberlands went 6-6 from the foul line to outscore Lindsey Wilson 8-7 in the final minute for the 77-66 final.

Hinson led the way for UC with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Colvin-Seldon notched his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Labranche sank a career-high four three-points and chipped in 13 points off the bench, while Taylor and Van Dulm finished with 11 and 10 points, respectfully.  Cumberlands finished the game converting 21-27 from the charity stripe for 77.8%, which is their best percentage this season.
