1/27/2019 6:08:00 PM

Waleska, GA – Four pins were not enough to carry the men's wrestling team past #13 Reinhardt, as the Patriots split the day after sweeping # 13 Southeastern, 46-4. The win keeps UC undefeated in Mid-South action, 5-0, however the squad tallied their third loss of the season with the 26-23 loss to the Eagles.

Hayden Lee, ranked third in his weight, led off the Patriots with his second pin of the weekend, taking the 125 class to go up 6-0 on Southeastern Fire. Ranked seventh at 133, Jacob Seto tallied three four-point nearfalls on his way to his 22-5 tech fall. Chase Brown meanwhile got the first takedown of the 141 weight class and tacked on a nearfall as time expired in the third, leading to his 19-8 major decision. Tres Leon, top wrestler in the 149 weight category, tallied his second pin of the weekend at the 5:15 mark, bringing the score to 21-0.

Bobby Ehman, 12th in the 157 weight class, escaped out of the first take down of his match-up, coming back in the second with a couple nearfalls, taking care of business with a 12-2 major decision. Brady Emerson tallied the only loss in the dual in an 11-2 major decision to give Southeastern their only points. Max Emerson, weighing in at 184, reciprocated with a pin while #6 Eric Deluse won a 5-2 decision. Forfeits by Southeastern at 174 and 285 gave Jarod Swank and Quandre Chisolm automatic wins and the Patriots a 46-4 victory.

Cumberlands kept the same lineup in their second meeting on the mats of the afternoon. Leading off at 125 lbs. again, Lee tallied his third pin of the weekend, wrangling #13 Koby Milner to the mat at the 4:30 mark. The senior recorded his eight total win by fall of forfeiture of the season to give the Patriots a 6-0 lead.

Seto lost his second match on the day, unable to come back from a two-point nearfall by Jordan Pitt in the second period. The sophomore recorded his first loss since the National Duals with the 10-7 decision, going on a 6-0 run since. Brown fell in his second match as well as Reinhardt's Curtis Doctor took the 12-5 decision.

Leon boosted Cumberlands with his third pin of the weekend, using his strength to overcome Jody McAlister at the 1:52 mark. Totaling seven pins this season to date, the junior's performance gave UC a 12-6 edge over the Eagles.

From there, the Patriots dropped four match-ups to ranked opponents, two falls and two major decisions, to seal their fate in Sunday afternoon's competition. UC also took a one-point infraction due to misconduct during the 174 weight match.

Deluse and Chisolm finished strong however, overpowering their opponents in their respective weight classes. Deluse was able to pin down #14 Jacob Henderson at the 1:40 mark, as he continues to lead the Patriots with nine falls this season. Chisolm dropped Hinton Bolinger at the 1:22 mark to bring the final score of the match to 26-21.
