Barbourville, KY –The fourth-ranked UC men's swimming & diving team were dominant as they recorded 11 wins and 13 national cuts as Patriots defeated Union 175-87 Saturday afternoon at the Union College Center for Health & Learning.
John Morgan McDonald led the way for UC notching a pair of wins and achieving "A" cuts in the process. The sophomore won the 200 free with a time of 1:45.95, before touching the wall with a time of 4:51.81 to take top honors in the 500 free. Teammate
Alan Senn finished runner-up in the 500 free (4:55.74), tallying a NAIA "B" standard.
Viktor Lyson continued his impressive start winning the 100 fly with a time of 51.99. That time is the fourth fastest time in the NAIA this season. Lyson placed third in the 50 free with a time of 22.61. Teammate Zane Spulock won the 50 free touching the wall in 22.01 to notch a "B" cut.
Nathan Souza and
Mikolaj Kala won the 100 and 200 breast, respectfully. Souza swam 1:00.09 to edge out Kala by 0.07 seconds in the 100 breaststroke, while Kala pulled away to win the 200 breast stroke by three seconds (2:13.31).
Nicolas Cecioni, Trey Wolfram, and
Mats Kamnes each notched a "B" standard in the meet. Cecioni went 55.68 to achieve a "B" cut in the 100 back, while going 2:03.58 to win the 200 back. Wolfram recorded his first collegiate win taking top honors in the 200 fly with a time of 2:02.67.
Kamnes achieved a "B" cut in the 200 free (1:48.14). Senn tallied UC's final individual win taking top honors in the 1000 free (10:09.85).
The Patriots closed out the meet with Kamnes, Lyson, Souza, and McDonald teamming up to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:15.99.
Cumberlands will return to the water Saturday, November 2, when they host Loyola (LA) in their home opener. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with live video available
