Williamsburg, KY – University of the Cumberlands men's and women's swimming & diving coach Eric Skelly has resigned, Athletic Director Chris Kraftick announced Tuesday.
Coach Skelly had just completed his 15
th season after taking over the program in 2011. In his time at UC, Skelly guided the Patriots to 14 consecutive women's swimming & diving Mid-South Conference Championships, along with 11 conference titles on the men's side, including eight straight. Additionally, Coach Skelly lead Cumberlands to 18 top-five national finishes, including a national runner-up finish on the men's side this year, while the women's team posted a third place finish.
For his success at UC, Coach Skelly was a two-time NAIA Women's Coach of the Year (2013, 2018), coach two NAIA Swimmers of the Year (Mendy de Rooi in 2019 and 2020), and three NAIA Divers of the Year (Dave Groh – 2018, Thomas Crawford – 2019, and Emma Lehmkuhl – 2023. Coach Skelly has also coached 21 individual national champions and the 2019 women's 400 medley relay, which is the first UC relay to capture a national title.
Coach Skelly also coached 700 CSCAA All-Americans over his Patriot career, while coaching a plethora of swimmers that have set new program records. Additionally, Skelly have coach a pair swimmers, Charlotte Parent and Christina Klouda, that have been inducted into the Patriots Athletic Hall of Fame.
Cumberlands is coming off an historic season in which both programs posted top three finishes for the first time in the same season.
