Offensive Dominance Buries the Bears on Senior Night

Williamsburg, KY – A full team effort gave the 18th-ranked Patriots their eighth shutout victory of the season, defeating the Pikeville Bears 2-0 on Senior Night at the UC Soccer Complex. Goals scored by Elsie Kibler and Micha Harris move the Pats to 11-2-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.

Cumberlands opened the match with fire, dominating the possession battle and putting a shot on goal just minutes into the competition. Harris dribbled past her defense and sent a shot towards goal but was blocked by a Bears' defender in the 6'. A shot by Hannah Truckenmiller that was tipped over the back of the net by UPike goalie Erica Burkhardt, gave the Patriots a corner kick opportunity in the 21'. Truckenmiller sent the ball into the box to connect with Kibler, who tapped the ball into the lower left corner giving UC the 1-0 lead. Although Cumberlands was unable to add to their goal count before the half expired, the Patriots backline remained strong and prevented the Bears from taking any shots during the first 45 minutes.

As the second half got underway the Patriots continued their attacking dominance, testing the Pikeville defense early and often. Back-to-back corner kick opportunities for UC came up short as the Bears defense was able to work the ball away from the Patriots. Cumberlands could not be contained however and found the back of the net again in the 58'. Jillian Zurborg sent a quick pass to Harris upfield for a long shot past the goalie and give UC the 2-0 lead. Cumberlands backline, led by centerback Riley Barrett, remained as powerful the attack, holding the Bears to zero shots in the match to earn the 2-0 shutout victory.

With the win, Cumberlands completes their eighth shutout of the season, finish their regular season with an 8-0-1 undefeated record when playing at home.

Cumberlands returns to the field Friday, November 1, as they travel to Portsmouth, OH to take on the Shawnee State Bears in their final match of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 5:00 pm. Live stream will be available here, and live stats will be available here.
