Williamsburg, KY – A slow start in the first saw the Patriot Women's Basketball team behind by a basket. An explosive second quarter followed by another strong quarter in the third would pace the Patriots in a 50-38 win over the Mariners of the College of Coastal Georgia. The win improves the Patriots to 6-1 on the season.
The two teams would trade baskets in the first quarter of play, but a three at the buzzer would send the Mariners ahead by two with the score 13-11. Cumberlands would come onto the floor in the second quarter with a vengeance, outscoring the Mariners 17-2 to take a 28-15 lead at the break.
Cumberlands would continue their dominate run for the next six minutes in the third. The Patriot run would make its way to 26-3, extending UC's lead to 37-16 with four minutes to play in the quarter. The lead would eventually extend to 21 at the end of the quarter with the Patriots up 44-23. The final quarter saw the Mariners cut into the deficit a bit, but the Patriots would hold strong for the 50-38 win.
The Patriots were led off the bench today by
Addison Wilson with 16 points (4-6 3 PT) with a pair of rebounds.
Jasmine Flowers added nine points with four rebounds. Cumberlands shot 34.1% from the field in the game, but an impressive 92.9% from the charity stripe (13-14). The Patriots outrebounded the Mariners 32-26 in the win.
Coastal Georgia struggled from the field, shooting just 27.1% on the day led by Quira Porter with 12 points and five rebounds.
UC returns to action next Saturday as they travel to Pippa Passes, Kentucky to take on the Eagles of Alice Lloyd College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 PM.
