Williamsburg, KY – Coming off one of the most successful Fall seasons in program history, with three teams qualifying for the NAIA National Championships, the University of the Cumberlands is in 30
th place of the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup announced Tuesday.
The Patriots have compiled 135 total points through the fall with football, women's soccer and men's soccer all earning points to be the highest-ranking that the Patriots have had after the fall season.
Patriots football earning 60 points for their fifth-place finish, women's soccer recorded 50 points for finishing 17
th, and men's soccer notched 25 points for their 32
nd place finish at their respective championships.
UC football posted a 10-2 record on the season, including a 6-1 mark in conference play to advance to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championships. The Patriots made program history defeating seventh-ranked Keiser 28-24 for the program's first postseason road win, before falling to the national runner-up Marian in the quarterfinals.
Women's soccer compiled another record-setting year for the Patriots tallying a 15-4-1 record en route to their first NAIA National Tournament Appearance. UC advanced to the championship match of the Mid-South Conference Tournament, before defeating (RV) Tennessee Wesleyan 3-1 for the Patriots first postseason win in program history.
Men's Soccer notched a 10-7-2 record en route to qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament as part of the Beckley, WV bracket. It was the program's first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, where they fell to Madonna 1-0. The ten wins this season was the Patriots first ten-win season under coach
Chris LeFevre and the program's first ten-win season since 2015.
This is the second straight year the UC earned points during the fall standings as the Patriots were ranked 86
th after the fall last year. This year marks the highest ranking since 2013-14 school year when Cumberlands was ranked 34
th after earning 90 points from football advancing to the national championship game.
Lindsey Wilson leads the Learfield Directors' Cup with 294 points, while Indiana Wesleyan, Embry-Riddle, Columbia, and Marian comprise the top five. Mid-South Conference schools Shawnee State is ranked 34
th as Campbellsville, Cumberland, and Life are tied for 76
th.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution finish in the NAIA Championships.
The next round of Learfield standings will be announced on March 12, after the conclusion of the NAIA men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor track & field, and men's wrestling championships.
