Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three-Pointers Haunts Patriots as UC Falls to Life

Williamsburg, KY – In a game that saw 16 lead changes and nine ties, the 21st-ranked UC men's basketball team couldn't overcome strong three-point shooting as they fell to Life 82-75 Thursday night at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win the Running Eagles improve to 16-12 overall and 6-6 in MSC play, while the Patriots drop to 19-8 and 6-6 in conference action.

It was a highly-contested game throughout the first half as Jordan Griggs converted a three-point play just over a minute into the game to give UC a 3-2 edge.  The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes until Life went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-9 lead with 14:26 left.  UC responded with an 11-2 run, including six straight points by Malik Colvin-Seldon, to retake the lead 20-17 midway through the first half.  Two minutes later, Caleb Taylor and Jahi Hinson combined for four straight points to extend the lead to 24-19, UC's largest lead in the game.  The teams continued to trade buckets over the next six minutes before Life netted four straight points to close out the first half and take a 34-33 lead.

Taylor scored on a put back, while Colvin-Seldon made a steal and slam to put UC back in front 37-37 two minutes into the second half.  The game saw three ties and a pair of lead changes over the next five minutes as Jordan Griggs and Danny Butt drained back-to-back three-pointers to give Cumberlands a 57-55 edge with 11:45 remaining.  Chance Edwards netted five of his eight points to push UC's lead to 62-59 two minutes later.  Life utilized a 13-1 run, spanning just over three minutes, to take a 72-63 lead. Colvin-Seldon looked to carry the UC back scoring five straight points cutting the deficit to 72-68 with 2:33 left, but that was the closes Cumberlands came as Life ended the game on a 10-8 run for the 82-75 final.

Life went 8-14 from beyond the arc in the second half, while the Patriots finished the game shooting 20.6% from long range.

Colvin-Seldon led the way for the Patriots with 25 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Griggs added 12 points, while Taylor finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

UC returns to action Saturday, February 16, as they host Carver in their final non-conference game of the season. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with live video is available here, while live stats will be available here.
