Williamsburg, KY – The 21
st-ranked UC men's basketball team shot 50% from the field and 72% from the free throw to defeat Carver 79-51 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win the Patriots notch their sixth straight 20+ win season and improve to 20-8 overall.
Malik Colvin-Seldon netted the first five points of the game to put UC in front 5-0 three minutes into the first half. The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes before a
Jordan Griggs sparked a 6-0 run, which was capped off by a
Travon Labranche three to extend Cumberlands lead to 18-7 with 12:02 remaining. Two minutes later, the Patriots went on a 19-5 run, over a seven-minute span, to push the lead to 39-16. UC went 6-9 from the charity stripe over the course of the stretch. The teams traded baskets before
Austin Hall found
Chance Edwards for the three-pointer to give Cumberlands a 44-21 lead at the break.
Cumberlands opened the second half on a 20-5 run to extend their lead to 64-26 with 11:05 remaining.
Nnamdi Van Dulm and
Travon Labranche combined for nine of UC's 20 points during that nine-minute stretch.
Bri'an Brown came off the bench to net the Patriots next 11 points to put UC in front 74-33 with 6:53 remaining.
Hunter Bode tallied back-to-back field goals, before Carver closed out the game on a 14-1 run for the 79-51 final.
The 51 points was the second fewest the Patriots have held an opponent this season.
Griggs led the way offensively with 19 points, while Bode recorded eight points and ten rebounds. Van Dulm finished with 12 points, while Colvin-Seldon tallied nine points and three steals.
UC returns to action Thursday, February 21, as they host Lindsey Wilson in their final home game of the season. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. with live video is available
