Colvin-Seldon’s Double-Double Leads Patriots to Senior Day Win

Williamsburg, KYMalik Colvin-Seldon recorded 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the 21st-ranked UC men's basketball team to a 79-71 win in their home finale over Lindsey Wilson Thursday night at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win the Patriots improve to 21-8 overall and 7-6 against the Mid-South Conference, while the Blue Raiders drop to 15-14 and 5-8 in conference play.

Both teams struggled to score in the early going however Colvin-Seldon grabbed an offensive rebound and put back to give UC the first lead just over two minutes into the game.  Jordan Griggs pushed the lead to 5-0 as Chance Edwards hit him for a long-range jumper.  Lindsey Wilson responded with an 11-6 run to even the score at 11 with 10:49 remaining in the first half.  Colvin-Seldon sparked a 7-0 run with four points that put the Patriots back in front 18-11.  A minute later, Edwards drained a three-point to push UC's lead to eight points however, the Lindsey Wilson responded with an 18-4 run to take a 29-25 lead with 28 seconds left.  That Patriots cut the deficit to a point as Danny Butt hit a three-pointer from 30 feet out to make it 29-28 at the break.

The Patriots recorded five straight points to start the second half and take a 33-29 edge just over a minute in.  Lindsey Wilson tallied five straight points, before Cumberlands used a 22-2 run, spanning almost six minutes, to take a 55-37 lead with 12:09 remaining.  Griggs notched 11 of UC's points during that run, including three three-pointers.  The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes until Jahi Hinson completed the old-fashion three-point play to give UC a 63-44 lead, their largest of the game, with 8:35 remaining.  Both teams continue to make baskets over the next four minutes as Cumberlands continued to lead by 13 points with 3:53 left.  From that point Lindsey Wilson tallied six unanswered before Nnamdi Van Dulm converted both free throws to extend the lead to 73-64 with 2:15 left. Colvin-Seldon capped of his night with a three-point play in the final seconds for the 79-71 final.

Colvin-Seldon posted his sixth double-double of the season, while Griggs finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.  Edwards chipped in ten points and five rebounds as Hinson contributed 11 points off the bench.  Caleb Taylor grabbed ten rebounds making it the seventh time this season that he tallied double-digit rebounds.

UC returns to action Saturday, February 23, as they travel to Lebanon, TN to face Cumberland University in their regular season finale.  The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m. with live video is available here, while live stats will be available here.
