Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Balancing Scoring Leads Patriots Past Braves

Ottawa, KS – The third-ranked UC women's lacrosse team netted the first seven goals en route to a 26-3 win over Ottawa Friday night. With the win the Patriots improve to 3-0, while the Braves move to 0-1.

UC jumped out to a quick lead as the Patriots converted their first three shots into goals to take a 3-0 lead two minutes into the game.  Samantha Tullar netted back-to-back goals, before Emily Heim dished out assists to Amanda Phillips and Jaclyn Berry to push the score to 7-0 with 19:10 remaining.  After Ottawa netted a goal, Kelsey Fearing put a well-placed free position shot into the back of the cage.  UC added six unanswered goals capped off by a Shea West unassisted goal at the 7:23 mark to make it 14-1.  In the final minutes of the first half Berry recorded a goal and dished out an assist to Stephanie Meyer for her second career goal as Cumberlands took a 16-1 lead into the break.

Cumberlands hot shooting continued in the second half as the Patriots recorded seven goals on their first eight shots of the half.  UC used a 4-1 run, including a pair of goals from Heim to extend the lead to 20-2 with 21:40 remaining.  Later in the half, Trinity Brown, Elizabeth Fladung, Emily Crump, and Madison Holliday notched their first goals of the season to give Cumberlands the 26-3 win.

Cumberlands out shot the Braves 33-16, including 21 to 8 in the first half.

12 Patriots netted at least one goal in the game led by Berry, who finished with seven goals and four assists.  Heim dished out a career-high five assists to go along with a hat trick as Tullar tallied five points, while Phillips chipped in four points.  Tullar also scooped seven draw controls and three ground balls in the win.

UC returns to action Saturday, February 23, as they travel to Atchison, Kansas for face eighth-ranked Benedictine at 1 p.m. Live video of the game will be available here, while live stats are available here.
