Webb Authors Historic Performance with Second-Consecutive No-Hitter

3/13/2019 10:13:00 PM

Box Score Madisonville, TN – With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, a toss by Jessica Webb from the circle to Tori Malone at first base after the batted ball secured the transfer-sophomore's second-consecutive no-hitter. UC extends their win streak to four, tallying a 10-8 overall record in their 2019 campaign.

In her second straight appearance as the starter in the circle for the Patriots, Webb delivered 106 pitches on her way to another no-no. Offering 56 strikes in the seven-inning affair, Webb recorded six strikeouts and relied on her defense to back her up in the shutout.

Webb remained ahead of the curve through the entire game. From the circle, the sophomore allowed a walk in each of the first three innings, but retired each of the batters with the help of her surrounding fielders. Webb scattered strikeouts throughout her second complete game, dropping four swinging and two looking.

Emily Jasper and Maddie Sickau led the ladies in white at the plate, boosting the Patriots to five runs on eight hits on the day. Jasper went three-for-three with the bat on her shoulder, slashing three singles to the shallow outfield to get on base. As a runner, the rookie showcased her speed with three total stolen bases in game two, four on the day. Sickau tabbed a single and a triple off the fence to record three RBIs through the game.

Both teams held each other scoreless until the fifth inning. The Patriots began their momentum in the third, as Jasper recorded the first hit of the game to center field. Two stolen bases later, the freshman outfielder threatened the Tigers, looking to score from third. A strikeout ended the inning however, stranding Jasper on.

Beginning the fifth-inning rally was none other than Jasper, who got on base again first for the Patriots with a shallow shot to center field. The rookie stole her third base of the day to move to second and was brought around the turns by an off-the-fence double by Hannah Stephenson. Another batted ball found its mark as Maddie Sickau lands her pitch in shallow center for an RBI single, giving Cumberlands a 2-0 advantage.

UC recorded their insurance runs in the seventh inning to secure the 5-0 victory. Jasper again led off with shot to shallow right field, followed by Stephenson with a fielder's choice to move her teammate to second. Sarah Biggerstaff set up the scoring efforts with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher. Sickau made the big push, tabbing a two-RBI triple to deep right-center and further exploiting Hiwassee by scoring on the passed ball on the following pitch.

After canceling the upcoming games at Milligan due to field condition, Coach Dillender is looking to add a pair of games in replacement to complete the spring-break week before seeing Mid-South action take off on the road at #8 Lindsey Wilson on the following weekend.
