Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Patriots Men’s Lacrosse Falls to SCAD

West Palm Beach, FL – The third-ranked UC men's lacrosse team couldn't fend off a second half attack as they fell to tenth-ranked SCAD 14-9 Saturday afternoon in a neutral site game.  With the win the Bees improve to 4-3, while Patriots move to 7-2 on the season.

The Patriots struck first as Sam Collinson found Justin Darley for a goal to give UC a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the opening quarter.  SCAD got a pair of goals in a 17 span to take a 2-1 lead with 3:11 remaining.  UC looked to even the score but Whitten McCune shot sailed wide keeping the score 2-1 after the first quarter.

Cumberlands took advantage of their first possession of the second quarter as Jake Mitchell connected with Alex Heckler for goal to tie the score 2-2 with 13:38 remaining in the first half. Heckler and Dylan Crouch notched back-to-back goals to put the Patriots in front 4-2 midway through the second quarter.  The Bees added two unanswered goals to even the score at 4-4 at halftime.

UC took advantage of a SCAD penalty as Heckler found McCune cutting towards the cage for a man-up goal 18 seconds into the third quarter to give the Patriots a 5-4 edge. SCAD responded with five straight goals to take a 9-5 lead after three quarters.

Dalton Smith netted an unassisted goal four minutes into the fourth quarter, however SCAD responded with back-to-back goals to take an 11-6 lead with 9:52 remaining.  Cumberlands continued to battle as Henry Quaye recorded two straight goals, while McCune added one to cut the deficit to 11-9 with 8:04 remaining.  However, that was the closest UC came as SCAD netted the final three goals for the 14-9 final.

Heckler, McCune, and Quaye all finished with two goals, while Collinson dished out a team-high three assists.  Sebastian Calmes went 14-17 on faceoffs and added ten ground balls, while Crouch scooped ten ground balls and Nick DiFranco chipped in seven ground balls.  Jaret Williamson led UC with three caused turnovers as Will Settle made 11 saves in the contest.

The Patriots return to the field Sunday, March 24, when they host top-ranked Madonna at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex. The game is slated for 1 p.m. with live video available here and live stats available here.
