Savannah, GA – The fifth-ranked UC women's golf team is in a three-way tie for second place after carding a first round 320 (+32) at
The Clash at Crosswinds Friday afternoon. The Patriots are tied with Taylor University and MSC rival Cumberland University.
Leading the way for the Patriots is
Hannah Griffith, who sits in three-way tie for eighth place with a score of 79 (+7). Griffith sank three birdies and eight pars on the day. One shot behind Griffith are teammates
Lucia Pena and
Carlee Shoemaker each carded an 80 (+8) and sit tied for 11
th. Pena recorded a birdie on the ninth hole to be even-par at the turn and added a second birdie on the 15
th hole. Shoemaker got off to an rough start however sank a birdie on the ninth hole and rebound to card a two-over-par on the back nine.
Brianna Baird sits tied for 16
th place after going nine strokes over par for an 81. Baird carded one birdie, 12 pars, and three bogies as part of her opening round. Rounding out the team is
Linda Huang who carded 88 (+16).
Faulkner University carded an opening round 307 to be atop the team leader board, while the Eagles' Hannah Sager carded a par, 72, to be atop the individual standings.
The Patriots will return to the course for the final round of the Clash at Crosswinds taking place at the Crosswinds Golf Club.
