Patriots Women’s Lacrosse Ranked Seventh in NAIA Coaches’ Poll

NAIA Top 10 Coaches' Poll

Kansas City, MO – The University of the Cumberlands women's lacrosse team earned 74 points to be ranked seventh in the NAIA Top 10 Coaches' Poll, announced by the national office Tuesday.  The Patriots are 11-3 on the season with six of those wins coming against teams that are either ranked or receiving votes.

Cumberlands leads the NAIA in goals, while ranking second in assists and points.  Leading the way for UC is Jaclyn Berry, who is ranked second in the country with 80 goals and 109 points.  Emily Heim has dished out a team high 41 assists to go along with 32 goals and 82 draw controls.  Katie Brewer and Bella Ricchiazzi has notched 45 and 42 points, respectfully for UC.

UC has limited opponents to 6.86 goals per game, which ranks third in the NAIA.  The Patriots have five players that have tallied at least ten caused turnovers this season led by Amanda Phillips with 18.  Cumberlands backline of Briana Kucis, Trinity Brown, Elizabeth Fladung, and Kelly Webb have tallied 40 caused turnovers and 93 ground balls.

Defending NAIA champion SCAD received 113 points and seven first-place votes to remaining a top the poll, while Benedictine earned the final two first place vote to be ranked second with a 12-0 record. Keiser, Indiana Tech, and Marian round out the top five.  Three other MSC schools are mentioned in the poll as Georgetown is ranked ninth, while Ave Maria and Life are both receiving votes.

UC returns to action Friday, April 12, when they host the third-ranked Seahawks in Mid-South Conference play. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live stats are available here and live video available here.
