Williamsburg, KY – With UC Baseball moving into the NAIA's Top Five earlier in the day, the Patriots were looking to extend their current winning streak to ten games with the Buffaloes of Milligan College in town for a mid-week showdown. Cumberlands would set another solid outing from their starter while the offense would continue to give ample run support as UC would defeat the Buffaloes 11-4, pushing their overall record to 39-5 on the season.
Scoring began in the bottom of the second. An RBI groundout for
J.C. Santos would push across the first run of the game for the Patriots, giving UC a 1-0 lead. The Buffaloes would tie the game up in the top of the third on an RBI single from Blake Dutton, knotting the game up at 1-1. Cumberlands would regain the lead in the bottom of the frame with two down. An RBI double from
Bryan Leef along with an RBI single from
Jose Rojas would add a pair of runs to the scoreboard as the Patriots would retake the lead 3-1.
UC would add a run in each of the next two innings to cushion their lead. With one down and runners on the corners in the fourth,
Raudy Martinez would hit into a fielder's choice, which brought in one run. In the fifth,
Bryan Benz would begin an impressive stretch of at-bats on the afternoon, this one a solo home run to left for his 12
th home run of the year, making it 5-1 Patriots.
Cumberlands would hang a four spot on the board in the bottom of the sixth. One run would score on an RBI double by Martinez to make it 6-1. A second RBI single from Rojas would be followed by a second home run form Benz, this one a two-run shot to left for his 13
th of the season, pushing the lead out to 9-1. Milligan would attempt to cut into the lead with the bases loaded and one down, but the sacrifice fly attempt to center would see the throw cut off by shortstop
Kevin Rolon as he would flip to
Marquis Orozco covering second as the tag would be applied for an 8-6-4 double play, ending the threat.
The Buffaloes would cut into the lead in the top of the eighth on a bases loaded walk to Kirby Smith with two more coming around to score on an error at short by Rolon, cutting the lead to 9-4 Patriots. Benz would end his day strong with his third straight at-bat with a long ball, this one also a two-run shot for his 14
th of the year, to give UC an 11-4 lead. After relief stints from
