Williamsburg, KY – The UC Baseball team continues to streak late in the regular season as the Patriots became the first team in the NAIA to 40 wins today with a 12-0 walk-off win over the Tigers of Hiwassee College. It is the 11
th straight win for the Patriots and the eighth straight game in which UC has scored at least ten runs. The victory moves UC to 40-5 on the season.
Adrian Comas would get the start for UC, bringing his 4-0 record into game, but he would improve that on the night with one of his sharpest starts of the season. UC gave him some early run support in the first. An RBI double from
Bryan Leef followed by an RBI single from
Jose Rojas gave UC an early 2-0 lead. Four more runs would cross the plate in the second with three coming off a bases loaded double from
Rolando Rodriguez. An RBI sacrifice fly by
Raudy Martinez followed to extend the lead to 6-0.
In the third, a two-run double by
Marquis Orozco pushed the lead to 8-0 Patriots after three innings played. Scoring would spread out a bit from there, but the production would come off the bat of
Bryan Benz. A solo home run in the sixth would sail over the left field fence for his 15
th home run of the year to make it 9-0 Pats. Looking for the run-rule win with two on, Benz would return to the plate in the eighth and smash a pitch deep over the left field fence for his team leading 16
th home run of the season, giving UC the 12-0 walk-off win over the Tigers.
Comas would get the complete game shutout win to move to 5-0 on the year. He would go eight innings allowing no runs on just three hits while striking out one.
UC will carry their streaks into the weekend with a three-game Mid-South Conference road series ahead of them in Lebanon, Tennessee as they face the Phoenix of Cumberland University. Game one is scheduled for Friday, April 19
th at 4 pm eastern time.
