Baseball Bounces Midway in Mid-Week Matchup

Versailles, KY – The Patriot Baseball team took to the road on Tuesday looking to extend their winning streak to a dozen as they took on the Eagles of Midway University. Shortstop Kevin Rolon had a monster game, driving in six runs in an 8-3 win for the Patriots over the Eagles. The win gives UC's their 12th straight victory and improves their overall record to 41-5 on the season.

After a scoreless first inning of play, the Patriots would load the bases with two down in the second. Rolon would come to the plate and triple down the left field line, clearing the bases to give UC a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Rolon would go back to work again, this time sending a pitch deep over the center field fence for a two-run home run, his sixth of the season, pushing the Patriot lead out to 5-0.

Starting pitcher Josh Avila would work three scoreless innings before being relieved by Adrian Comas. In the fifth, the Patriots would find another run as Raudy Martinez would lead off the inning with a single and come around to score with two down to extend the margin to 6-0. Comas would give up the first run of the game to Midway in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Matthew Olson, making it 6-1 Patriots.

Hampton Clark would pitch a scoreless seventh inning for the Patriots, keeping the score at 6-1. The Patriots would add two more in the eighth as Rolon would reach base on an E6 by the Eagles, bringing in Bryan Benz and Marquis Orozco, giving UC an 8-1 lead. Nicholas Purpera would come in to pitch the eighth for the Patriots, but Midway would strike. Olson would punch a two-run home run over the left field fence to make it 8-3 Patriots. Lightning in the area would cut the game an inning short as UC would come away with the five-run win.

Comas would get the win going three innings allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two. Starter Avila went three innings as well allowing no runs on one hit and one walks while fanning three.

Cumberlands returns to Mid-South Conference action on Friday, April 26th as they host Cumberland University for a single game. First pitch is set for 7 pm.
