Kansas City, MO – A day after capturing his first AAC Defensive Player of the Week honor, UC men's lacrosse midfielder added another accolade to his resume as he was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the national office Tuesday. Swann helped the Patriots to a 2-0 record, winning 70.2% of his faceoffs and setting a program record on the week.
Swann began the week by going 12-19 on faceoffs with six ground balls in UC's 13-5 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. He won seven of his 12 faceoffs in the first half, helping the Patriots jump out to a 7-1 lead.
Swann followed that up by winning 75% (21-28) of his faceoffs and setting a new single-game record for faceoff wins against Montreat. With the Patriots trailing 5-1 after the first quarter, Swann won 15 of the next 16 faceoffs, including going 12 of 13 in the third quarter to spark the Patriot offense, which set a new program record for 11 goals in the quarter. In addition, the 21 faceoff wins surpass the previous program record of 18 set back in 2017.
The pair of conference wins helped Cumberlands to their first perfect 5-0 conference record and the program's first AAC regular season title. On the season, Swann has posted a .576 faceoff win percentage, while scooping 52 ground balls. He currently ranks second in the AAC in faceoff win percentage and fourth in ground balls.
The Patriots return to the field Friday, April 5, when they travel to St. Luis, MO to face Missouri Baptist. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live stats available here.
