Softball Falls in First Game of MSC Tourney

5/3/2019 7:06:00 PM

Box Score Bowling Green, KY – The Patriots fall to Shawnee State in the first game of the Mid-South Tournament, 2-0. The Bears send the number-three seed Patriots into the consolation bracket as their starting pitcher tosses a one-hitter.

Sidney Pennycuff opened hot from the circle, dropping back-to-back batters on strikes in the first and second innings. She finished the day with six K's, allowing both runs to come across before being relieved by Krystin Wilson.

Emily Jasper was the sole base runner for Cumberlands through the early game after earning a free pass via a walk in the fourth. She was later caught stealing third to end the inning and the Patriots scoring chances.

Jasper later claimed the only hit, breaking the hitless streak in the bottom of the seventh. Consecutive flyouts ended the game, stranding the rookie on first.

The Patriots made contact at the plate but were only able to hit into the outfield gaps once for a clean base. The ball often rolled or flew into the gloves of the Bears for quick putouts.

Cumberlands will see Pikeville next in the tournament after they also took the 7-1loss to Campbellsville. The next consolation round is scheduled for 9:00 PM central tonight at Buchanon Park in Bowling Green, KY.
