Williamsburg, KY – Abbie Genders recorded a career-high 16 kills and tied her career-high with eight blocks, however, it wasn't enough as the University of the Cumberlands volleyball team fell to ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson 3-0 (32-30, 25-22, 25-23) Tuesday night at the UC Volleyball Gym. With the win, the Blue Raiders improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Patriots move to 8-4 and 0-2 against the MSC.

Ashley Sobocinski for a kill, which sparked a 5-0 run for the Patriots to take a 12-10 lead. The set was tied eight times until Genders converted consecutive kills coupled with a
Leah Crist block to give UC a 22-20 edge. Lindsey Wilson responded with four straight points before the Patriots added three more points, including a pair of blocks from Genders and
Mackenzie Koch to take a 25-24 lead. Cumberlands would have two chances to close out the set but couldn't convert either as the Blue Raiders took the set 32-30 for the 1-0 lead.
Genders,
Lily Chapman, and Koch each tallied a kill to start the second set to give UC a 3-2 lead. Lindsey Wilson responded with an 8-4 run to take a 10-7 lead before UC notched four straight points to take an 11-10 lead. The set had six ties with the final one coming at 21-21. Lindsey Wilson recorded three straight points and eventually took the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead.
Anna Zuniga dished out three assists to give Cumberlands a 5-2 lead to begin the third set. After the two teams traded points Sobocinski put down back-to-back kills to give UC a 9-6 lead. Later in the set, the Patriots utilized a 4-0 run, including a kill by Genders, to take a 13-10 advantage. The match was tied five times before the Blue Raiders used a 3-0 run to take a 20-17 lead. Crist recorded a kill and an assisted block with Genders to cut the deficit to 22-21. After trading points the Patriots added another block to cut the score to 24-23, however Lindsey Wilson closed out the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
In addition to Genders, Sobocinski added nine kills and nine digs, while Koch finished with eight kills and four blocks. Crist finished with 10 blocks, which marks the second time this season the senior has recorded double-digit blocks in a game. Zuniga lead the team with 22 assists and 13 digs as
Juliet Montague and
Jennifer Stein notched 12 digs apiece.
