Hattiesburg, MS – The Patriots Women's Golf continued their 2019 fall season on Monday at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to compete in the Carey Collegiate Fall Classic. UC would again jump right into the thick of the top of the leaderboard early. With 12 teams and a total of 69 competing golfers, this is a tough field to stay in front of. With their gritty play though, the Patriots have themselves within striking distance after day one, just four shots out of the lead.
Cumberlands would tally a team score of 302 on Monday, tying with host school William Carey University to sit just four strokes out of the lead, currently held by Dalton State University who carded a team score of 298 on the day. Patriot
Carlee Shoemaker would pace the Patriots and in a big way early. Sinking birdies on four of her first seven holes of the day to go to four under (-4), she would settle in to finish the day with a two-under par (-2) 70 on the round to hold a share of the lead entering Tuesday's round. Teammate
Lucia Pena unfortunately found some struggles at the end of her round on Monday. Only one over par through 13 holes she would bogey four of her final five with a birdie to mix to end her day with a 76, four over par (+4) for the day to tie for 14th place.
The pairing of
Viviane Braun and
Brianna Baird both carded rounds of 78 (+6) to sit in a tie for 22nd place overall.
Hannah Griffith's 82 (+10) was thrown out of UC's team score today, but has her tied for 35th place overall right now. Individual
Zoee Crum carded a 78 in the opening round to currently tie with teammates Braun and Baird for 22nd place overall.
