Patriot Extend Win Streak to Five with 82-43 Win

Williamsburg, KY – The (RV) University of the Cumberlands men's basketball team had four players reach double-figures en route to an 82-43 win over Life Saturday afternoon at Randy Vernon Court.  With the win the Patriots improve to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Running Eagles move to 10-7 and 1-3 against the MSC.

Hinson led the way with a season-high 21 points and four rebounds.  Caleb Taylor added another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jordan Griggs and Bri'an Brown notched 13 and 11 points, respectfully.

The Patriots came out strong scoring the first nine points of the contest.  Caleb Taylor converted back-to-back field goals, while Jordan Griggs nailed a three-point to cap off the run.  Life responded with a 9-6 run, however, Bri'an Brown grabbed an offensive rebound and put-back to extend UC's lead to 17-9 midway through the first half.  Minutes later, Tevin Olison hit from long-range as Cumberlands leads 24-16 with 5:18 remaining.  On the next Patriot possession, Ethan Snapp connected with Jahi Hinson for three, which sparked a 17-4 run to give UC a 41-20 advantage at the break.

The second half began similar to the first with Taylor hitting a field goal to reach double-figures for the tenth time this season.  Griggs hit a pair of threes as part of a 14-0 run to extend the lead to 55-20 with 14:02 remaining. Life went on a 7-2 run, spanning three minutes, however Nnamdi Van Dulm found Hinson from beyond the arc to make it 60-27 midway through the half.  Hinson added two more field goals, before Chance Edwards made a steal and slammed it home to push UC's lead to 66-30 with 8:37 remaining.  Cumberlands closed out the game on a 16-13 run for the 82-43 final.

Cumberlands finished 38 points in the paint and 17 second chance points.

The Patriots will return to action Thursday, January 16, when they travel to Campbellsville to face the Tigers. Tip off is slated for 8 p.m. with live stats will be available here and live video available here.
