Washburn Improves His School Record at UIndy

Indianapolis, IN Jacob Washburn continued to shine in his final season with the Patriots, furthering his previously-set weight throw school record at UIndy's Tom Hathaway Distance Classic.
 
The senior from Blountsville, AL has noted an NAIA B-cut in every meet this season, this week's coming in 16.55 meters out of the weight throw ring. Placing second overall, Washburn led the NAIA performances at the meet by over a meter. Washburn went on to place eighth in shot put, marking 13.53 meters to once again lead NAIA athletes.
 
Simeon Coleman found success on the track for the third straight meet, placing in the top-five for the sixth time of his sophomore season. After collecting NAIA standards in the 400 and 600 meters, Coleman missed qualifying for the third time this season by only 0.15 seconds, placing first at UIndy with a time of 22.53 seconds.
 
After topping the 200-meter field, Coleman anchored the 4x400-meter crew also including Miguel Reis, Desmond Benham and Matthew Chavers. The foursome placed second against the tough competition, clocking 3:25.65 across the finish line.
 
Chavers also had the best long jump performance of the day, out-measuring NCAA Division II and NAIA opponents. In a field of 17, the rookie marked 6.78 meters off the board to improve five centimeters since last week at Clemson. On the track, Chavers placed fifth in the 200 behind his teammate while pacing 22.96 around the lap.
 
Dillon Vanover registered his second-highest individual finish of his young career, placing fourth in high jump after clearing 1.91 meters. The sophomore also measured 5.82 meters in his first Patriot appearance in long jump.
 
Nicolas Grandperrin charted his best finish to date of his senior season, taking third and fourth respectively in the 800 meters and mile. In the former, the veteran paced sub-two minutes with 1:59.51 showing on the time clock. In the mile, Grandperrin noted a 4:25.55 finish.
 
Following in the mile, Jarrett Forrest clocked 4:38.10 while Coleman paced 4:46.73 in the eight-lap race. Kyle Woodward and McGwire Wilson followed at 4:57.71 and 5:21.51 respectively.
 
Ken Cobb, the transfer from Tennessee Wesleyan, advanced to the 60-meter finals in his Patriot debut with a 7.18-second mark. He improved to 7.13 seconds in the finals, placing fifth overall. Later in the 200, Cobb crossed the line at 23.31 seconds.
 
Reis led the 400-meter crew at Indianapolis, placing sixth with a time of 52.58. The first-year sprinter also placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.42 seconds. Meanwhile, sophomore Benham hit 53-flat in the 400 meters and 23.16 in the 200.
 
In his Patriot debut, Leonardo Daley rounded out the sprints with an 8.62-second performance in the 60-meter hurdles, later finishing seventh in the finals.
 
Hunter Gosdey returned to the pole vault pit for the Patriots for the second time this season, clearing 3.72 meters in his second attempt for a new personal best.
