KANSAS CITY, MO – Tavon Davis has once again been named the NAIA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, national officials announced Wednesday afternoon. The junior sprinter earns the honor for the second consecutive week following another record-breaking performance at the Raleigh Relays.
Davis turned in a historic effort in the 400-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 45.75 against a loaded field at one of the premier Division I meets in the country. The mark not only met the NAIA A standard, but also broke his own program record and remains the fastest time in the NAIA this season.
He also played a key role in the Patriots' 4x400-meter relay, anchoring the squad to a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:10.56. That mark also hit the NAIA A standard and stands as the top time in the NAIA this year.
Davis becomes the first athlete in program history to earn NAIA National Athlete of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks and now has three national weekly awards to his name this season.
Cumberlands will look to continue its strong outdoor campaign as the Patriots return to competition next weekend at Centre College.
