COMPLETE RESULTS
Crestview Hills, KY – Patriots tally four pins, including three straight to open the dual, against Thomas More to claim their second conference win of the season.
Austin Franco collected his first Patriot pin, taking down the Saints' James Mulenga at the 1:01 mark. The first-year lightweight controlled his opponent after the first and only takedown of the match early on.
Jacob Seto followed the opening bout with a win by fall of his own, his sixth of the season. The 12th-ranked 133-pounder got the first takedown and initially got the four-point nearfall midway through the first period. With time almost expiring in the first, Seto pinned down Jordan Hoselton.
In his first true duals appearance – he claimed a forfeit win at the NAIA Challenge Duals –
Trey Walton tripled down on the Patriots hot start with the team's third-straight pin. The 20th-ranked man dominated the 141 bout, riding for most of the action before a second-period takedown and pin at 4:03.
Aaron Johnson registered the fastest pin of the night, needing only 41 seconds of heavyweight action. The 11th-ranked big man toppled Thomas More's Tyler Kassinger with ease within early in the bout and held him down on his back for the win, his fifth by fall of the year.
The Patriots rattled off seven wins overall on the night including the four wins by fall, totaling 8:41 of action used. Cumberlands men's wrestling recorded four pins in a dual for the third time this season, previously against Lincoln and Lyon.
Tres Leon and
Jacob McNutt rallied a 39-9 match-score margin in their tech falls while
Eric Deluse advanced on forfeit. The Patriots remain undefeated 2-0 in Mid-South North play while moving their yearly record to 10-3.
Eight takedowns and a four-point nearfall was all number-one Leon needed to push the pace in the 149 bout and chart the 20-5 tech fall. Of the Wisconsin-man's 22 wins this season, 11 have been by fall and five have been techs.
Ranked fifth at 165, McNutt garnered his fifth tech fall of his sophomore campaign after running up the score 19-4. The young man only needed seven takedowns and a four-point nearfall to halt the match. McNutt worked in two of the takedowns and the nearfall in the second period after escaping a bottom position, paving way to the wide win.
Brady Emerson fell in a battle down to the wire, decided only by a third-period escape by the Saints' Andrew Taylor. The close 3-2 duel at 174 featured Taylor with the sole takedown and two escapes by Emerson, who was unable to ride out the final period on top.
Max Emerson came close to registering the only ranked win of the night by either squad. The senior 184-pounder saw #9 Avery Jones, controlling him for a majority of the match before unsecure footing pinned Emerson on his back in a reversal.
A select group of wrestlers prepare for the upcoming conference tournament this weekend at the Cumberland Open in Lebanon, Tennessee. Meanwhile, the starting line-up will resume MSC action at next week's double-dual with the women's team against the Tigers of Campbellsville. The Tuesday-night showdown will begin at 7 PM in the O.Wayne Rollins Center.
