Owensboro, KY- Competing in the Mid-South Conference Fall Invite this past weekend, the Patriots men's tennis team got a sneak peak at the tennis scene for this coming spring. Going up against four MSC programs, the team played in three doubles matches and six singles matches apiece.

Getting the doubles competition going, UC's #1 duo of
Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub went 4-0 on the weekend, outscoring their opponents 18-3. In the #2 doubles spot, partners
Luis Montull and
Mattis Le Montagner tallied a 3-1 record highlighted by a 6-0 sweep of Shawnee State's Austin Hanshaw and Harley Dixon.

In the final doubles spot, freshmen
Robert Wu Hung-Ju and
Martin Muller won four-straight matches to go undefeated on the weekend. The pair finished as the only unbeaten #3 doubles team.

Leading the way in the singles competition, Barbier went 3-1 in the #1 singles spot, only falling to Lindsey Wilson's Camilo Erazo in a three-set match. Montull, in the #2 spot, also went 3-1 on the weekend and finished second overall among #2 singles players.

Following those great performances came Le Montagner and Muller at the #3 and #4 spots, respectfully. Both men finished 3-1 in competition, but Muller almost pulled off a perfect 4-0. In the final match of the weekend, Muller and Lindsey Wilson's Jan Silhavy went into a third-set superset match where Silhavy won 6-7 (0-7), 6-3, 10-3.

In the #5 singles spot, Wu went 3-1 including an 8-0 demolition of Shawnee State's Harley Dixon on day two of competition. In the final singles spot,
Christian de la Fuente Nodado and Sjored Nijssen split time each playing a pair of matches. Nijssen matched up against Freed-Hardeman and Lindsey Wilson, while de La Fuente Nodado competed against Martin Methodist and Shawnee State. Both men went 2-0 in the #6 singles spot, becoming the only Patriots to go undefeated in the singles competition.
Since winning the ITA Regional Cup back at the beginning of September, Banoub and Barbier will continue their fall season as they travel to Rome, GA on October 16 for the ITA Cup. They travel with a pair from the women's team, making it the first time the Patriots have had both men's and women's doubles teams competing at the ITA Cup.
