Rome, GA – Coming off a successful day one of the ITA Cup, men's tennis doubles pair
Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub hit the court again on Sunday to continue their run at the ITA title.
In the singles competition, Barbier faced Brunno Presso of Warner in the consolation bracket. Presso defeated Barbier 6-0, 6-0, ending the Patriot's run in singles play.
Moving on to the doubles side of the ITA Cup, Barbier and Banoub faced Indiana Wesleyan's Stefono Di Aloy and Martin Carrizo in the quarterfinal match. The Patriots won their first set 6-4 but found themselves headed to a super set after dropping the second set 7-6(4). Bariber and Banoub battled but came up short as Di Aloy and Carrizo won in a 1-0(4) victory.
The Patriots pair moved on to the consolation round where they won their sole match. Facing Alex Verdu and Jonathan Hentschel of Olivet Nazarene, Banoub and Bariber conquered the Tigers 3-6,6-4,1-0(2).
Barbier and Banoub finished their run in Rome 2-1, but made history still. The pair became the first Cumberlands doubles team to qualify for the ITA Cup since 1999 when Ricky Heath and Yew Ming Si won the ITA Regional Championship to earn their bid.
The ITA Cup championship rounds will take place tomorrow with the Men's and Women's Doubles matches at 11:45am and 12:30pm, respectively. First serve for Men's and Women's Singles will be at 9:00am and 8:00am, respectively.
