Williamsburg, KY - The Patriots men's lacrosse team is gearing up for a full season of lacrosse in the spring. With a plethora of new additions to the team, the Pats are looking forward to junior transfer Tanner Popovich stepping onto the field.
 
A native of Murfreesboro, TN, Popovich joins Cumberlands after two years at NCAA DII school Lincoln Memorial University. A midfielder during his time with the Railsplitters, Popovich excelled on the field as a young leader and helped the team to 6-14 record over his two years.
 
Choosing UC has become a dream come true for Popovich, who describes the culture as, "Hard-working, competitive, and fun." Of his first few weeks in Williamsburg, Popovich notes, "The coaching staff and my teammates have been great with welcoming myself to UC."
 
His brother, Stephen Popovich, also joined the Patriots this off-season from LMU. The duo has the potential to have a massive impact on UC's success. The last pair of brothers to be on the team at the same time were Bryan Morgan and Jake Morgan. That pair holds several defensive records and amassed a collective five AAC All-Conference selections and two NAIA All-American honors.
 
Head coach Pete Campbell believes Popovich will be a key player in the team's midfield line and expresses this excitement saying, "Tanner has done a great job buying into our team culture." Campbell continues, "Our staff has very high expectations for Tanner this upcoming season"
 
The Patriots men's lacrosse team gets back in action in February 2021. The official schedule will be released in the coming months.
