Williamsburg, KY – In a battle of top-ten swimming teams, the second-ranked UC men's swimming team showcased their talent and depth with 10 wins and a pair of national cuts in their 152-50 win over Union Friday afternoon at the Patriots Aquatic Center.
Leading the way for UC was
Martin Herion,
Enzo Esteves, and
Alan Senn. Herion notched a pair of wins including going 52.25 in the 100 fly to win the event and achieve a NAIA preliminary standard. That time was over a half-second faster than the standard of 53.05. Herion (1:49.78) tallied his second win of the meet as he outreached
Daniel Ruiz Ramis (1:49.94) by .16 in the 200 free.
Competing in his first meet as a Patriot, Esteves made the most of the opportunity touching the wall in 21.49 to win the 50 free and achieve a national cut. Esteves also anchored the 400 medley relay team to a win with a time of 3:36.39.
Senn continued her strong senior campaign, posting a pair of wins in the distance free events. The Albuquerque, NM native opened the meet winning the 1000 free (10:16.83) before finishing first in the 500 free (4:58.43).
Three other Patriots posted individual wins at the meet. Ruiz Ramis won the 100 free with a time of 48.94, while
Nicolas Cecioni touched the wall in 54.99 to place first in the 100 back.
Nathan Souza and
Mikolaj Kala recorded a one-two finish in the 100 breast going 1:00.82 and 1:01.28, respectfully.
In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, Esteves, Ruiz Ramis,
Gavin Fuchs, and
John Morgan McDonald teamed up to post a winning time of 3:18.03.
The Patriots will return to the water Saturday, November 14, when they host compete in a virtual meet against Loyola. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
