Wilmore, KY – The second-ranked UC women's swimming and diving team posted one win, broke two pool records, and achieved 14 nationals cuts on the second day of competition at the Asbury Invite.  The Patriots have recorded 447 points to be in second place.

Mendy De Rooi continues to etch her name in records books as she broke the Asbury pool record for the both the 200 free and the 500 free on the day.  The senior opened finals by tallying UC's lone win of the day, taking top honors in the 500 free with a time of 5:05.36.  Not only did that time break the pool record, it's also the fastest time in the NAIA this season.

De Rooi capped off her night by breaking the 200 free record while leading off Cumberlands 800 free relay.  The Lelystad, Netherlands native split a 1:52.59, which is the fastest time in the NAIA this season.  De Rooi teamed with Leah Thomas, Maria Basto, and Hanne te Velthuis to finish the relay in 7:45.96, which is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.

Cumberlands saw a plethora of strong performances on the day, highlighted by the 100 free, 200 breast, and 100 breast events.  The Patriots had a quartet of swimmers in the finals of the 100 free led by newcomer Anastasiia Shatalova who notched a runner-up finish with a time of 52.99.  Hanne te Velthuis went 52.55 in the prelims and placed fourth in the finals (53.60), while Houston Burgoon notched a time of 54.80 to finish sixth.  Leah Thomas rounded out the Patriots with a seventh place finish (55.47).

Te Velthuis and Shatalova have the first and third fastest times in the NAIA this season in the 100 free.

The 200 back saw a trio of underclassmen shinning for Cumberlands.  Basto dropped two seconds off her prelim time to finish runner-up with a time of 2:08.28.   Liberty Poley went 2:12.75 to finish fifth, while Samantha Danielsen notched a season-best time (2:13.01) in prelims, before placing seventh in the finals. 

Cameron Klimczak looks like she has returned to peak form posting a career-best time of 1:06.75 en route to a runner-up finish in the 100 breast.  That time is 0.05 seconds fastest than her previous career-best set back at 2018 NAIA Championships and is the seconds fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Teammate Kayana Cook posted a season-best time of 1:10.75 to finish sixth.

Emilia Martinez Morales and  Rebecca Loftus achieved UC's final two individual cuts of the day.  Morales went 2:16.47 and finished fifth in the 200 IM, while Loftus when 55.26 in the consolations of the 100 free.

Basto, Klimczak, de Rooi, and te Velthuis came together to go 3:54.55 for a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay.

The Patriots will return to the water Friday, December 11, when they take part in day two of the Asbury Invite.  Prelims are slated to begin at 9 a.m. with finals slated to start at 3 p.m.
