Patriots Blast Pair of Homeruns in Win Over Bulldogs to Remain Undefeated

Williamsburg, KY - Patriots baseball improved to 15-0 on Tuesday afternoon, defeating longtime rival Union College 10-8 in a nine-inning showdown. Bryan Leef had his best outing of the season, going 4-5 with a home run and five RBIs.

The Patriots jumped out front early, putting three runs across in the bottom of the first frame. Ray Villanueva reached on a lead-off single to right before Pedro Nazario reached on an error. Leef came to the plate, crushing an RBI single to left, scoring Villanueva and advancing Nazario to second. Alex Dominguez reached on a walk, loading the bases for Candido Encarnacion who sent a rocket on the ground that was misplayed by the shortstop, allowing Nazario and Leef to score, making it 3-0 UC.

In the bottom of the second, Villanueva slugged his second hit of the day with a single to right, before being scored by a Leef RBI later in the inning. In the top of the fifth inning, Union found a rhythm, busting six hits and scoring seven runs to take a 7-4 lead. The Patriots answered in the bottom of the frame, putting three runs across via singles from Leef and Encarnacion and a huge three-run shot from Rolando Rodriguez that tied the game 7-7. Union put one more across in the top of the sixth, swinging for two hits to lead 8-7

Trailing 8-7, Kevin Rolon walked to give the Patriots a baserunner, advanced by Villanueva who reached on error on the next at-bat. With one out on a 1-0 count, Leef blasted a three-run home run over the wall in left-center, giving the Patriots a 10-8 lead they would hold in the final inning to win their 15th straight contest.

Koby Silvy got the call to start for UC, going five innings allowing seven runs on seven hits, notching five strikeouts. Geraldo Soriano pitched three and a third innings of relief, allowing no runs on just one hit and striking out three for his first win of the season. Garrett Vathroder retired the final batter, earning his third save of the season.

The Patriots have a busy weekend, facing off against Huntington and Roosevelt in a three day, five-game series at home. Game one of Friday's doubleheader against Huntington University is scheduled for 1 PM.
