Opelika, AL - For the third straight tournament the UC women's golf team is in first place after the opening round. They are the only team with a single digit score over par (+8) while the next closest team, Lindsey Wilson College posting a +21.

The dominating team score from UC comes from all five golfers currently in the top-ten of all 43 competitors at the LTU Spring Break Invitational. Coming off her individual title win just ten days ago, Lucia Pena is tied for second place with teammate Hannah Griffith and Zofia Wojcik of Lindsey Wilson. Pena shot a 73 (+1) after picking up three birdies and earning par on eleven holes.

Being tied for second is the best opening round for Griffith this season. The senior had the most birdies out of all golfers, earning four, two on the front nine and two on the back nine.

Brianna Baird was right on their heels in fifth place, just one stroke behind them. She shot for par or better on 14 holes, including two birdies. Baird has secured a top-five opening round score in three tournaments this year.

Just two strokes behind Baird at 76 was Viviane Braun who is in eighth place. Braun shot one birdie on the day at the 11th hole after shooting six straight holes at par.

Rounding out the team and sitting tied for tenth place is Carlee Shoemaker. The Central City, KY native shot just six above par earning three birdies over the course of the 18 holes.

This is the second time this season all five golfers for the Patriots have been inside the top-ten for the opening. The other time was for the Bill Sergent Invitational, which UC went on to win.

As a team, Cumberlands put up a score of 296 outpacing fellow MSC school Lindsey Wilson by 13 strokes for a score of 309. The other MSC team at the tournament is Campbellsville who sits in fifth with a score of 325.

The LTU Spring Break Invitational will conclude on Friday, March 12 at the Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, AL.
