Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team continued to roll with their offensive efficiency scoring the first 17 goals of the game en route to a 25-2 final over Shorter Monday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win the Patriots improve to 5-0 on the season for the second time in program history.
Samantha Tullar led the way for UC with seven goals, five assists, and 12 points, all of which were season-high's. Heim finished with seven goals, three assists, six draw controls, and four ground balls in the win.
Florence Andrieu and
Katie Brewer recorded three goals and two assists, while
Bella Ricchiazzi netted a hatrick in the win.
Elizabeth Fladung led the Patriots defense with a season-high eight draw controls and four ground balls, including scooping her 100
th career ground ball in the first half.
Trinity Brown notched four caused turnovers and seven ground balls, while
Emily Crump made five saves in the win.
Ricchiazzi converted a free position shot to get the scoring going before Tullar won the ensuing draw control and connected with Heim for a goal putting UC ahead 2-0, one minute into the game. Tullar either netted or assisted Cumberlands next six goals pushing their lead to 8-0 with 25:19 remaining.
Katie Brewer added a free position, before Tullar struck again turning her fifth shot into her fifth goal and extending UC's lead to 10-0. The Patriots added six more goals in the half, including goals from
Florence Andrieu,
Rachel Leigh, and Brewer to give the Patriots a 16-0 lead. Crump made three stops in the half to extend her scoreless streak to 90+ minutes.
Fladung won the opening draw control of the second half and on the ensuing possession, Andrieu netted an unassisted goal to push the lead to 17-0. The two teams traded goals before Brewer connected with Heim for a man-up goal, which was part of three straight goals from the junior making it 20-1. Cumberlands converted three free position opportunities into goals, while Tullar and Heim each added a goal over the final 15 minutes for the 26-2 final.
The Patriots outshot Shorter 41-8 in the contest, while limiting the hawks to 3-16 on clears.
Cumberlands will return to the field Friday, March 6, when they host (RV) Indiana Tech at the UC Lacrosse Complex. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. with live stats available
