Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Five Players Net At Least Three Goals as #2 Patriots Shield Off Warriors

Williamsburg, KY  – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team had five players net at least three goals, while the defense held their opponent scoreless in the first half for the third straight game in the 22-1 win over (RV) Indiana Tech Friday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win the Patriots improve to 6-0 on the season for the second time in program history.

Emily Heim led the way for the Patriots with four goals, four assists, and five draw controls in the win.  Samantha Tullar netted a team-high five goals and nine draw controls, while Florence Andrieu and Bella Ricchiazzi finished with four goals each.  Stephanie Meyer recorded her second hat trick of the season with three goals and an assist.

Defensively, the Patriots were led by Elizabeth Fladung, who recorded four caused turnovers, six ground balls, and six draw controls.  Hannah Churchley added two caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Rachel Leigh scooped five ground balls.

Cumberlands was efficient right from the opening draw as Tullar won the draw and netted a goal 11 seconds into the game.  Ricchiazzi added a goal, before the Heim and Tullar connected twice to extend UC's lead to 4-0 four minutes into the first half.  Heim dished out three straight assists before adding a goal of her own extending the lead to 8-0.  Two minutes later, Andrieu wrapped around the cage and put a well-placed shot into the cage to make it 10-0 wit 20:48 remaining.  Meyer added a pair of goals and an assist over the final 15 minutes of the first half to give UC a 14-0 lead at the break.

Heim and Andrieu got the scoring started in the second half with a pair of goals in the first couple of minutes pushing the lead to 16-0.  UC added five more unanswered goals, including one from Reegan Hensley giving the Patriots a 21-0 advantage midway through the second half.  Five minutes later, Katie Brewer netted an unassisted goal, her 100th goal of her career, to make it 22-0.  Brewer becomes just the third Patriot in program history to net 100 goals.  Indiana Tech added a goal in the final minutes for the 22-1 final.

UC limited the Warriors to one shot in the game and 7-20 on clear attempts.

Cumberlands will return to the field Saturday, March 7, when they host Missouri Valley at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with live stats available here and live video available here.
